Through a unique method of hand arrangement, the artist combines multiple film prints to form sculptural montages, resolving in 3-dimensional compositions. With expert consideration to shapes, patterns and layers, David Jivin exposes the full potential of the photograph as a palette unto its own. By meticulously aligning the individual prints, the original representational qualities of the photographs are compromised as the formerly recognizable figures and landscapes are abstracted and obscured. This gives way to a new conglomerate identity, wherein the photograph retains its original merit, yet is reduced to its raw colors and shapes which together form a new amalgam. The resulting work conveys an entirely new aesthetic and euphoric state of beauty based solely on its visual properties.
